Pro tools 8 le digi 001

Sure extension conflicts sucked on OS9, you just need custom extension sets!! I miss the mac smiley face on my system folder, how am I supposed to know whether its bootable or not??!!! Wasn't it nice to be able to copy everything, including bootable system by merely dragging and dropping? This is a great forum!

Can anyone tell me how to get my old LE 5. Thats my first problem I,ll leave the rest till later!!! Cheers Chad. I posted this elsewhere but I thought it'd relate nicely to this thread too. I've been reading this with interest and I'd like to raise a point. Liam Howeltt the Prodigy once said that when they started making it big, they'd surrounded themselves with gear, high tech equipment, all kinds of gear-nerd fun, but couldn't get the motivation to write new things.

In the end he circled round to just a laptop with the software he needs. I'm a big believer that you can achieve a lot on old systems. We've got a bus mackie analogue desk, running into a 50mHz G4 mac with PT6. The point is I can do all the initial mixing and slicing up I need on these dinosaurs, have been for the past 3 years. The PC was one I bought for Uni in and it still runs now, 2. Granted, that means I'm now running 3 computers, but when you think about it, how much space does a computer take up?

Either that or I come into some money! Havent fully got all my stuff redone with the addition of the Digimax and newly arrived MPA GOLD and R44 ribbon mic but soon i will be doing a lot more 48k sessions since thats all the Digi can handle.

My post-production guys have all the real nice toys so I'm fine with my old workhorse studio right now. I dont see leaving Digi for awhile and when I do the Digi will become my Studio B set-up for sure.

I appreciate the old timer gear. Upgrading to 6. So for now, I'm sticking with old faithful, but if any guys want to post about the major improvements from upgrading or expanding the Digi Pro Tools software to later versions- please do share and lets keep this thread alive! Reason: readability. I also own a more modern rig downstairs, but I keep ole faithful around as a backup.. I wish like hell that avid bring back digi support via expansion bays and g5 towers.. Pro Tools is a digital audio workstation developed and released by Avid Technology formerly Digidesign for Microsoft Windows and macOS which can be used for a wide range of sound recording and sound production purposes. Like all digital audio workstation software, Pro Tools can perform the functions of a multitrack tape recorder and audio mixer, along with additional features that can only be performed in the digital domain, such as non-destructive editing, using the Undo feature. Audio and MIDI tracks are graphically represented in a timeline; here, both can be recorded, imported and edited in a non-linear, non-destructive fashion.

Audio effects and virtual instruments can be added, adjusted and processed in real-time in a virtual mixer. It features time code, tempo maps, elastic audio, automation and surround sound abilities. The Pro Tools TDM mix engine, supported until , employed bitfixed-point arithmetic for plug-in processing and bit for mixing; current HDX hardware systems, HD Native and native systems use bitfloating point resolution for plug-ins and bit floating point summing [1].

The first incarnation of Pro Tools was introduced in under the brand name Sound Designer. At the time, the pair were creating and selling digital drum sound chips under their Digidrums label. Thanks to the universal file specification developed by Brooks, Sound Designer files could be transferred to and from one sampling keyboard to another keyboard made by a different manufacturer. This universal file specification, along with the printed source code to a assembly language interrupt driven MIDI driver, were distributed through Macintosh MIDI interface manufacturer Assimilation, which manufactured the first MIDI interface for the Mac in MacMusic allowed users worldwide to share sample libraries across different manufacturers platforms without copyright infringement.

One evening in at John Connolly's Beaverton, Oregon home, an alert was sent online from MacMusic requesting the system operator, and to Connolly's surprise it was Peter Gotcher, thanking him for providing such a revolutionary service and making Sound Designer a much more attractive program to buy, by leveraging both the universal file format and by developing the first online sample file download site in the world, many years before the World Wide Web use soared.

E-mu rejected this offer and the pair started Digidesign, with Gotcher as president and Brooks as lead engineer. At this stage Sound Tools was a simple computer-based stereo audio editor. Although the software had the possibility to do far more, it was limited by the hard drive technology, which was used to stream audio and allow for the non-destructive editing that Sound Tools offered. The core engine technology and much of the user interface was designed by and licensed from a small San Francisco company called OSC, known at the time for creating the first software-based digital multi-track recorder, called DECK, in The software required a Digidesign interface to run, which acted as a copy-protection mechanism for the software.
