I finally found a similar solution for Realtek drivers. Hi, I have installed the latest Realtek drivers December I'm using 6. There's a newer driver, but I haven't tried upgrading. Did you try looking for "MicV" and "MonR" in other parts of the registry? Good Luck. Jerry campbell. Hi, Did this problem ever get solved?
Like Nihal, I need to be able to hear myself play. Thanks Jerry -- Jerry campbell. William Billard. No really, IS there a solution to this? If i can't solve this i would have just bought a typewriter -- William Billard. Dell ships its notebook computers with the ability to monitor the input jack turned off. This means that you can't hear an audio signal routed through the mic or line-in jack even though you can record the audio and hear it when you play back the recording.
An edit in the Windows Registry will enable monitoring and let you hear the audio in real time. Realtek Driver Version is 5. Thanks, you saved a week of my life! Dean Hull. I have tried every bit of advice i can find using google to no avail. My driver version is 6. And for each one that shows up what properties for them show up? On my HP laptop my built in sound shows up and in it's properties the front mike can be selected as active.
I feel your pain. I cannot monitor the input live. Everything works on playback. Realtek is no help whatsoever. Will not answer emails. Does anyone have a solution??? Nothing I have found seems to work.
I have Realtek audio and this just worked very fine; after the instalation, more controls appeared in the playback devices levels tab and I could unmute the mic and higher its volume too! I've been following this thread, frustrated, as I'm a Dell Vostro user with Realtek integrated sound, and I can't get a fix for this problem.
As others stated, the fix for Realtek users featuring the subfolder AD in the registry doesn't work because the folder isn't there. Showing results for.
Search instead for. Did you mean:. Last reply by comhunter Unsolved. I've been happily using a D for well over a year with zero problems. It's easily the best laptop I've owned. Wanting to jump on the Vista train I completely wiped the drive and installed Vista Ultimate.
Fortunately, every single piece of hardware was recognized and worked. The only nagging issue I've had is a high pitched whine coming from somewhere under the keyboard.
This was never a problem for me in all my days with XP on this laptop. I did several hours of googling last night and discovered the problem was quite common on several lines of Dell laptops.
I also see that the problem is quite frequently mis-diagnosed as an internal fan problem. My problem is definitely related to the onboard sound system.
As best as I can tell it has to do with the microphone input putting feedback into the speaker system. I think a driver update solved this issue long ago on XP but it's back in Vista. I can make the problem go away completely by right clicking on the speaker icon in the system tray and choosing the "Recording Devices" option. The resulting dialog shows the Sigmatel C-Major Audio microphone option with a green check mark beside it which I assume means that it's working.
As soon as this dialong box is displayed the high pitched whine goes away. As soon as I hit the OK button to dismiss the dialog the high pitched whine comes back. Messages on other boards have suggested muting the microphone device. Unfortunately, no such option exists in the Sound control panel. I can mute the speakers which doesn't fix the problem but not the Microphone input.
First question I'm guessing that the issue isn't specific to the D It's probably an issue with any or all of the Sigmatel audio chips. I've searched and searched through the various Sound control panels but can't find it.
Sorry for being so long winded. The high pitched whine has been driving me nuts for a few days and I only recently figured out how to temporarily stop it. I'd rather not have to bring up the sound properties box each and every time I boot the machine.

If your external audio source a stereo or tv tuner etc that you have connected to the mic jack has a way to control its volume level, turn it down to control excessive volume. I have put it into this step-by-step format for those of us who are not familiar with editing the Registry.
Users of Inspiron , , , , , , , , , , , , , m, m, m, xps and xps gen2 found the subkey 'DisableMicFromPlayback'. Users of Inspiron , and did not find the subkey in their Registries. Another thing you can do while you are in the Registry is to find "DisablePeakmeters" and set the value to This will place an input level meter on the Recording Control panel and an output level meter on the Volume Control panel. These are useful when you are recording with a barebones program like Windows Sound Recorder that doesn't have meters.
It is wise to create a System Restore point before editing the Registry. If you accidentally make incorrect edits while in there you could cripple your computer, but using System Restore should correct any problems.
